Talent Development Programme
At Tampines Junior College, we believe that every student has the potential to excel. We thus tailor programmes to help students maximise their potential and reach greater heights. The TPJC family is dedicated to developing our students to be the best that they can be.
POLARIS @ Tampines Junior College
The POLARIS Programme is a talent development programme catering to students who have achieved excellent results at the GCE ‘O’ Levels and in the College’s internal examinations. At several entry points in JC1, students who meet the academic criteria will receive an exclusive invitation to join the programme.
The Polaris star is one of the brightest stars in the sky. For thousands of years, Polaris has been used as a guiding star and reference point for navigators and astronomers. Like its namesake, the POLARIS Programme aims to nurture students who shine brightly in whatever they choose to undertake and whom others will look up to for guidance.
POLARIS stands for Pursuit Of Learning Achievement & Responsibility In Service. In line with the College’s vision of “A Leader in Every Student”, students in the programme will be offered a range of opportunities to step out of their comfort zone, broaden their horizons and pursue excellence in the areas of Academic, Service and Self leadership.
Academic Leadership (POLARIS Science & Humanities Programmes)
Based on their interests, POLARIS students can opt to join one of two specialised academic programmes in the College – POLARIS Science and Humanities Programmes.
These programmes cater to students who show aptitude, commitment and interest in further developing in either the Science (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) or Humanities (Economics, Geography, History, Literature, Theatre Studies & Drama) disciplines.
In both programmes, POLARIS students will be empowered with critical leadership, project management and communication skills to organise academic activities for their peers. In addition, POLARIS students can expect to immerse themselves in enriching experiences beyond the classroom to reinforce content knowledge gained from the A-Level curriculum and apply them to real life contexts. These experiences include seminars, learning journeys and research attachments to learn from industry experts in the various subject areas; as well as opportunities to excel in competitions and subject Olympiads.
The POLARIS programme aims to develop leaders who embody the College values and demonstrate responsibility and humility in serving others. Hence, students in the programme will be guided in initiating meaningful Values In Action (VIA) projects to serve the needs of the College or external organisations. From these student-initiated projects, POLARIS students will also gain valuable leadership, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills that will stand them in good stead for future success.
The POLARIS programme supports the other programmes in College to help students develop important 21st century competencies and skills for future success. Students can look forward to participating in a myriad of life skills workshops and an exclusive dialogue with TPJC alumni. Students will also be mentored by experienced teachers in setting personal development goals and to explore options for the future. These will prepare our students well for application to their desired university courses and scholarships after JC.
