2016 TPJC EAS Learning Journey, Mon 12 Dec 2016

TPJC EAS Team had its annual EAS Learning Journey, a 90-min Jubilee Walk, followed by a Principal’s sponsored Lunch at 21 on Rajah on Mon 12 Dec 2016.


United Nations Association of Singapore Model United Nations Preparatory Conference

From 13 to 16 December, 7 students participated in the United Nations Association of Singapore Model United Nations Preparatory Conference. It was 4 intense days of academic stimulation where the students role-played as delegates of different organs of the United Nations and discussed current and pressing global issues such as the displacement and integration of refugees, food security and youth radicalisation. The Conference was an excellent opportunity for the students to acquire knowledge on international issues, and provided the platform for them to sharpen their oratorical, research, writing and negotiation skills.


Prom Night 2016

Last night, we bid farewell to our JC2s at Prom Night 2016. The theme was Making History, commemorating the legacy they have left in TPJC as well as our hopes for them to continue to be their best and achieve success in the future. All the best to all of you, JC2s! You’ll always be welcome back HOME in TPJC.

Thank you, Mr Lim Hock Loon

The GP Department recently held a farewell party for Mr Lim Hock Loon (left of photo) who will be retiring after 32 dedicated years in the education service. On behalf of TPJC, our Vice-Principal, Mr Tan Eng Poh presented him with a certificate from the Ministry and a gift from the School. We will miss him dearly and wish him all the best in his new adventures to come!

Values in Action with Evergreen Green Circle

On the 26th Nov 2016, the students from the Interact Club and Shooting Club partnered with Evergreen Green Circle for a gift bag distribution event. The students planned and carried out games and activities, packed gift bags and served breakfast to the elderly.

The students learnt the importance of team work and communication. They were also thankful for the things that they have and that they were able to make a difference to the lives of the elderly in their own way.

OBS Leadership and Service Award Ceremony

Our JC1 student, Iris Sin Seok Kee (16S11), was awarded the prestigious Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) Leadership and Service Award. She will be among the 46 outstanding youths selected in Singapore to undergo the OBS 21 days Classic Challenge Course which will also include a Service component. The course seeks to expose youths to the rigor and challenges of an outdoor programme and provides youths with the opportunity to give back to the the society. We wish her the very best in her journey ahead!

Cambodia OVIA 2016

23 of our students and 3 of our teachers, Ms Emma Yuana, Mr Ian Wong and Ms Rebecca Wu, will be embarking on a service learning trip to Cambodia from 22 Nov 2016 to 28 Nov 2016.

We wish them a safe and meaningful trip.

Overseas Twinning Programme to Shandong 2016

A team of 24 students led by Mrs Agnes Teo, Mr Tan Chee Boon and Ms Clara Pay will be embarking on an Overseas Twinning Programme to Shandong, China from 19-24 November 2016. The team will be conducting school immersion to Shandong Experimental High School as well as an industrial visit to a Singapore-China joint venture, Lu-Xin Engro Corporation.

TPJC Hosted the MOE-CPDD TSD Worskshop

On the 16th of November 2016, TPJC hosted the MOE-CPDD Theatre Studies and Drama Workshop for all three Drama Elective Programme (DEP) Schools.

Our students gained much from the sharing of Devising Techniques by the facilitators. They also had memorable and valuable interactions with their peers from Victoria JC and Anglo-Chinese JC.

GP Professional Inquiry Sharing 2016

The TPJC General Paper Professional Inquiry Team presented their project titled “The Use of Structured Questioning to Develop Higher-Order Thinking” at the CPDD Professional Inquiry Sharing Session on 16 November 2016. The project examined the role of structured questions in systematically leading students through the different cognitive processes. Through this, it is hoped that teachers will be able to encourage greater engagement with issues in the General Paper classroom at higher cognitive levels.

TPJC-Civil Defence Lionhearter Appointment Ceremony

6 of our JC1 students were officially appointed as the pioneer batch of the TPJC-Civil Defence (CD) Lionhearter Club on 11 November 2016 by Mr Amrin Amin, the Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, who is a TPJC alumni.

The CD Lionhearter Club aims to spread awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness and what one can do during a crisis. These pioneer members will be trained in CPR-AED, First Aid as well as the proper use of the fire extinguisher, also known as the Triangle of Life skills. These members will be trained not only to provide immediate assistance for on-campus incidents but also to serve as Community Engagement (CE) Ambassadors to impart emergency preparedness knowledge and skills to their peers, loved ones and members of the community.

2016 University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (UNSW ICAS)

On 4 Nov 2016, 2 of our students, Chua Kai Jun (16S09) and Veronica Pereira (16S14) were awarded the High Distinction Medal for their outstanding results in the Mathematics Competition for the 2016 University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (UNSW ICAS).

Australian Mathematics Competition

25 JC1 students and 10 JC2 students took part in the Australian Mathematics Competition, a competition organised by the Australian Mathematics Trust that assesses students’ mathematical ability by school year and country.

We are pleased to announce that Tampines JC has produced 6 JC1 and 3 JC2 Distinction winners, and 10 JC1 and 4 JC2 Credit winners.

Tampines’ Art Competition

Vivian Tan Yu Yan (16A01) recently obtained a consolation prize in the ‘My Favourite Place in Tampines’ Art Competition, organized by Tampines Town Council. Part of the 29 winners selected by the judging panel, her digital art work which was rendered from a photograph she had taken at Temasek Polytechnic, showed a keen eye for composition amidst the architectural details. For her effort, she was awarded a consolation prize in the Open Category.

We congratulate Vivian for her win and wish her all the best in her artistic journey ahead as an art student in Tampines Junior College.

PSG Appreciation Lunch 2016

On 22nd Oct 2016, we had our appreciation lunch for our Parent Support Group to thank them for their unwavering support and contributions to the College.

NYAA Gold Award Ceremony

Congratulations to our TPJC NYAA students (both current JC2 students and alumni) on receiving the highest accolade in NYAA, the Gold Award. Our NYAA students received the award from the Guest-of-Honour, President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Institute of Technical Education Headquarters. They have certainly done our College proud as they formed the largest number of awardees amongst the Junior Colleges in receiving this prestigious award.


The NYAA Gold Award is presented to those who have completed at least one and a half years of NYAA components in service, physical recreation, skills, adventurous journey and also a residential project which involves serving the community at large.

JC2 Farewell Assembly 2016

The JC2 Farewell Assembly was a time for our teachers to convey their heartfelt wishes to their graduating students. There were songs, dance, messages of encouragement, and a slapstick comedic skit to relive anecdotal moments of the students’ life as a TPJCian. To top it off, the School Leaders and Heads of Departments put up an inaugural performance with a song item wishing TPJCians all the best in their journey to the “Top of the World”!

Power Up Grand Finale 2016

Strong show of support from our generous and enthusiastic Parent Support Group (PSG) members who were present to send their well-wishes to the JC1s and JC2s who are preparing for their Project Work and GCE A-Level Examination respectively.

TPJC Art Students Tops in HMPS-UNAS Visual Arts Drawing Competition 2016

Huamin Primary School (HMPS), in conjunction with the United Nations Association of Singapore (UNAS), has organised the Visual Arts Drawing Competition 2016, a visual platform for students to express and showcase their artistic talent. The competition aims to provide students with the opportunity to take on an active role in bettering the lives of others and the environment around them. The theme of this year’s competition is “Protecting our Environment; Our Future Together” which is based on 1 of the 17 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.


We are happy to announce that two of our JC1 Art students, Tasya Graciela (16S15) has obtained the first position while Peng Jiayi (16A01) has obtained a consolation position in the Upper Secondary/JC Category.

Designing with TI-84 Color Graphing Calculators Competition

Congratulations to Phua Shi Ni (15S09) on winning the Gold Award and Nguyen Vu Truong An (16S07) on winning the Bronze award in the Designing with TI-84 Color Graphing Calculators Competition. The Designing with GC Competition (organised by Hwa Chong Institution and sponsored by Texas Instruments) is a platform for students to use mathematical equations to draw pictures using their graphing calculator according to a given theme. This year’s theme is Climate Change. The designs are judged on originality, creativity, difficulty and suitability. We are proud to announce that we are the only Junior College to clinch the Gold award this year.

37th Singapore Masters Open Track & Field Championships 2016

Our College Advisory member and also TPJC alumnus, Mr Winston Goh, participated in the 37th Singapore Masters Open Track & Field Championships 2016. Under the 45-49 age group, we are proud to announce that Mr Winston Goh clinched the 1st position in the Triple Jump Men Masters and came in 3rd in the Long Jump Men Masters.

SG Author Series: Poetry Talk by Dr. Boey Kim Cheng, organized by Read! Singapore and NLB

On 16 September 2016, as part of the SG Author Series talks organized by Read! Singapore and the National Library Board (NLB), local poet and Associate Professor of creative writing in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Dr. Boey Kim Cheng, was invited to give a poetry talk on the theme of Individual and Society to our JC1 and JC2 Literature student cohort.
Students heard Dr. Boey’s journey of how he became a poet, the inspiration for his poems and what his ideas on individual and society are. Students were inspired to press on in their creative pursuits as well as obtained insights on how to approach thematic concerns for the subject of Literature.
Once again, TPJC thanks Dr. Boey Kim Cheng, Read! Singapore and NLB for making their way down and giving this talk.

MOE-A*STAR Local Student Research Programme 2016

We are proud to share that Timothy Phua Chia Joe (16S05) and Pham Trung Viet (16S15) have been accepted into the MOE-A*STAR Local Student Research Programme, a highly competitive research attachment jointly organised by Ministry of Education and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). They will be embarking on their research projects in November 2016.

UON Business Plan Competition

Congratulations to Team TPJC comprising of Benjamin Koo Wei Jie (16A06) and Nguyen Vu Truong An (16S07) on emerging top 5 out of 53 participating teams for the inaugural University of Newcastle Business Plan Competition. We are also the only JC team to enter the final round, together with 3 teams from the Polytechnics and 1 from the private institution. The competition theme of ‘Innovative Entrepreneurship for the 21st Century’ was initiated to create opportunities for youths and encourage them to become leaders in their space of interest. It also seeks to strengthen the rigour of youths in developing compelling and smart creative concepts and ideas.
