Event Highlights Term 4 2017
TPJC Work Experience Programme
During the December break, about 80 students participated in the TPJC Work Experience Programme (WEP) across 19 different organisations. This programme allowed students to gain work experience in various industries such as the healthcare industry, social work, entrepreneurship and the arts. Through the programme, students gained an insight into the day to day workings of the industry and developed resilience when met with challenges. They now better understand the requirements of their potential career both academically and in terms of work skills and attitudes. We thank all CAC members, PSG members, alumni and partners who have provided work experience opportunities for our students and made this programme possible: Mrs Gwendoline Tan, Mr Koh Liang Soon, Mr Sean Kong, Dr Kelvin Khng, Dr Nelson Chua, Mr Andrew Tang, Mdm Chen Liying, Mr Mohamed Ismail and Mdm Grace Tan.
2017 POLARIS Arts Camp
The POLARIS Arts Camp was held from 27 to 29 Nov 2017. The camp was specially put together by an alumnus, Dr Chan Mun Kitt (87A07), in collaboration with the College for students in the POLARIS programme. Our students had the privilege of learning about “Globalisation, Anti-Globalisation” from Professor Danny Quah, Vice-Dean (Academic Affairs) and Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and about Social Psychology of New Media from Dr Elmie Nekmat (99A03), Assistant Professor in Communications and New Media, FASS, NUS as well as other distinguished faculty members of NUS. It was especially heartening to have established alumni volunteers speak to our students to inspire them to aim and achieve! Students also had the opportunity to tour the Yale-NUS campus, accompanied by a current Yale-NUS student, attend the Animal Classification Workshop at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum which showcases several real specimens of various plants and animals as well as a visit to the NUS Centre for Quantum Technologies. Such an exposure to an area vastly different from their usual academic curriculum was greatly enjoyed by the students!

The students were also delighted to receive their awards from the guest of honour, President Halimah Yacob.
